MAHABHARATA, ADI PARVA (VOLUME 1), CHAPTER 211, VERSE 8:
Tatha iva raajaa Vruishn`iinaam Ugraseenah prataapavaan
upagiiyamaanoo Gandharvaih strii sahasra sahaayavaan.
GIST
The king of Vrishnis was the valiant Ugraseena, capable of conquering the Gandharvas (fairies who rank between humans and demi Gods). He had thousand women to assist.
BLOGGER'S VIEW
Strii = women. What Ugrasena would have done with thousand wives in the gynecium (womens' apartments)? Every woman will get a chance to copulate with Ugraseena once in four years (1000/365 days), assuming that the king visited a woman's apartment, per day.
This Ugrasena was the father of King Kamsa, Krishna's maternal Uncle and whom Krishna slayed.
*No wonder kings depended on Ayurvedic physicians for 'vaajikaranam', a treatment for increasing sexual prowess, a la the present day viagra.
*No wonder Krishna had 16,000 women and 8 regal-wives.
